5 Tasty Raw Meat Dishes

There are many different opinions about how meat should be cooked - you probably have this conversation every time you bring out the BBQ! With some of the finest restaurants around the world serving famous delicacies of raw meat, we’d thought we go through some of the tastiest options. In Australia, and perhaps even more so in Bendigo, we generally love our premium meats cooked but it always good to hear about other gourmet cooking options. Who knows, after checking out some of these dishes you might change your mind about how well-done you want your steak!


The steak tartare is the epitome of haut cuisine when it comes to raw ingredients. This classic French dish really brings out the tenderness of the meat used. Typically with beef being used, horse meat is also a traditional variation. The raw beef is usually chopped or minced before being formed into a patty shape before consumption.

The rump of beef is a more popular cut of meat by which the tartare is served in many restaurants, yet minced beef from varied cuts is also popular when purchasing from supermarkets and butchers. Steak tartare is usually served with a raw egg yolk on top, as well as a choice of onions, capers and sometimes rye bread.

Whilst the French classic is one of the most widely known raw meat meals around the world, Asia has its own share of raw meat meals that are truly delicious in every way. With a whole separate category for raw meat dishes, Korea lends its own home-grown specialist techniques to create a wide range of tasty raw meals.


One of the most popular raw meat dishes in Korea has to be the delectable Yookwhe. This dish is created from thinly sliced raw beef juliennes combined with a soy sauce and garlic to create an irresistible starter. Also coming topped with sesame seeds and the ubiquitous raw egg perched on top, Yookwhe is a national favourite in South Korea.

Ossenworst is another raw meat dish that is popular in the Netherlands. This tasty raw meat sausage is made from the finest oxen meats and come accompanied with a seasonal salad and is usually placed on a choice of bread. As with many raw meat dishes, premium meat is essential in ensuring that when proper chilling and meat handling is applied your meal will be perfectly safe to eat.

Thailand has a popular range of raw meat cooking that is part of the more popular traditional dishes available. Koi Soi is Thailand’s signature raw meat dish and features many traditional ingredients that you might have already tried.
